Two Programs By

Barbara Goodspeed

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will welcome Barbara Goodspeed for a demonstration in watercolor on Wednesday, May 12. Mrs Goodspeed’s program will begin at 7:30 pm.

The meeting is open to the public, free of charge. It will be held in the lower level meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street Newtown (at the flagpole).

Barbara Goodspeed is a popular demonstrator and instructor at SCAN. She will explain the design and composition elements as she develops her painting. In addition she will share insights she has gleamed studying with Edgar Whitney, Frank Webb and other nationally known watercolorists.

Mrs Goodspeed has earned a long list of awards, including the Jane Peterson Award from the Salmagundi Club and the Grumbacher Gold medal from the Kent Art Association. She is a Signature member of the Allied Artists of America in New York City.

Her work has been published in Best Of Oil Painting (North Light Books), Best of Landscape and Best of Watercolor 3 (both from Rockport Publishers).

In addition to Wednesday’s program, Mrs Goodspeed will be conducting a workshop in watercolor on Saturday, May 15, from 9 am to 4 pm, also at the meeting house. Cost is $40, and it is not necessary to be a SCAN member to attend.

Call Nancy Warwick at 746-9100 to reserve a spot in the workshop.
