The 100-voice strong Waterbury Chorale will perform Mozart’s The Great Mass in C minor (K427) on Saturday, May 17, at 8 pm, at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road.

Begun in 1782, Mozart never completed the Great Mass. He had initiated it in celebration of his marriage to Constanze. It was performed in Salzburg (with his wife as one of the soloists) with the “Credo” and “Agnus Dei” — classical parts of the work — still missing. The Mass in C minor has also been described as the bridge between Bach’s significant B minor Mass, and Beethoven’s enduring Missa.

Calling it “The Genius Of Mozart,” Maestro Joseph Jacovino will be leading an accomplished choir with the added power of Soprano Marissa Famiglietti, Mezzo-Soprano Mariana Vagnini, Tenor Jeffrey Hartman and Bass Shae Apland. Accompanying the choir will be organist Susan Theodos and the 23 strong professional musicians which comprise the Waterbury Festival Orchestra.

Alto Anita Corbeil mirrored the feeling of the choir saying, “It has been an amazing journey to learn and perform this difficult, yet glorious Mozart work. Come to listen and be prepared for a real treat.”

Tickets, which are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, are available from any choir member or online at www.waterburychorale.org. Additional ticket information is also available by calling 203-723-0417.
