The theater at Edmond Town Hall will offer a free screening of McFarland USA on Saturday, May 9.

Kevin Costner’s latest film, according to Internet Movie Database, follows “a struggling coach and teacher [Costner] who has had to move around for different incidents in his career, [who] finally comes to one of the poorest cities in America: McFarland, California. There he discovers buried potential among several high school boys and slowly turns them into championship runners and brings them closer than even he could ever imagine.”

The film also features Ramiro Rodriguez and Maria Bello. It has a running time of 2 hours, 9 minutes. It is rated PG for thematic material, some violence and language.

Costner, who The Hollywood Reporter pointed out in November “just can’t resist starring in an inspirational sports drama,” is already well known for his work in Field of Dreams (1989) and last year’s Draft Day, among dozens of other films during his 30-plus year career in films.

Saturday’s 7 pm screening will be free of charge thanks to Ingersoll Auto of Danbury. The company, owned by Todd Ingersoll of Newtown, has been offering at least one free screening at the town’s movie theater since January 2013.

Regular admission for movies at the town hall, at 45 Main Street, is $2.

McFarland USA is scheduled for May 8-14 at Edmond Town Hall, with daily evening shows at 7 pm. Matinees are planned for Saturday and Sunday at 1 and 4 pm, and Tuesday, May 12, at 1 pm.

Released in February, McFarland USA will be the next film offered in Ingersoll Auto of Danbury’s Free Saturday Movies series.
