Accomplished Still Life Artist To Lead Critique Session At Meeting House, May 14

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will welcome Peter Seltzer for an art critique session on Wednesday, May 14, at 7:30 pm. The program will in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). Admission is free.

Peter Seltzer is a well known artist and his work is represented in the permanent collections of the Butler Institute of American Art (OH), Harvard University, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and the New Haven Paint and Clay 100+ Year Collection. In addition, his oil and pastel paintings have been exhibited at these and numerous other public venues including the Noyes Museum of Art in NJ, National Arts Club, National Academy of Design and the Salmagundi Club in NYC.

His paintings have been included in fine art books such as The Best of Pastel, The Best of Sketching and Drawing and Pure Color: The Best of Pastel.

Dr Louis Zona, director of Butler Institute of American Art in Ohio, says: “Peter Seltzer is one of those rare talents that is so identified with the mastery of a medium that his name becomes synonymous with that medium. Is there a more accomplished still life artist in America? I sincerely believe there is not.”

Ms Seltzer has been honored with the designation Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America. Among his many other awards are four Gold and four Silver Medals in international exhibitions. Many in depth articles about Mr Seltzer’s work and technique have appeared in American Artist Magazine, The Artist’s Magazine, Pastel Journal and Connecticut magazine.

“Absolutely Free” is a 39 by 26-inch pastel on paper by Peter Seltzer, who will be the guest artist for the next SCAN program.
