Grace Fischer

Grace Emma (Bowen) Fischer, 78, of New Milford, formerly of Sandy Hook, died May 17 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of William H. Fischer.

Mrs Fischer was born in New Canaan on August 29, 1922, a daughter of the late Ida Scott and Charles F. Bowen. She graduated from New Canaan High School, Class of 1940. Mrs Fischer also attended banking school and was employed as a teller for many years by First Stamford National Bank, Stamford.

During World War II, she was a volunteer at Stamford Hospital and the Communication Center Civilian Defense in Stamford. She and William H. Fischer were married in St John’s Episcopal Church, Stamford.

While residing in Sandy Hook, she was active in the Girl Scouts, serving as a Brownie leader. Mrs Fischer was a member of St John’s Episcopal Church, Sandy Hook, until moving with her family to Redding where she became an active member of Christ Church.

The family later moved to Wall, N.J., where she became involved in collecting antiques and miniatures. Mrs Fischer was a very active member in St Michael’s Church, Allenwood, N.J. for ten years.

After her move to New Milford, Mrs Fischer became a member of St John’s Episcopal Church. She was also a member of MADD, New Milford Historical Society, New Milford Animal Welfare, and Covenant House.

In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by a son, W. Scott Fischer of Allenwood, N.J.; a daughter, Sharon F. Arciola of New Milford; a sister, Dorothy B. Stevenson of Newberry, N.H.; four grandsons; and a niece and nephew.

A private Memorial Service was held at the convenience of the family.

Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford, was in charge of arrangements.
