Flagpole Photographers Honored By CT Association Of Photographers

The Connecticut Association of Photographers (CAP) recently announced the results of the 2020 Tops In Connecticut juried competition. The statewide competition, sponsored by CAP, is the premier venue for Connecticut photographers to compete and share their work.

Nine Flagpole Photographers Camera Club of Newtown members had the honor of having 23 of their photos accepted in this prestigious event. Their photos were chosen to be among the top 100 images from 392 photos in nine categories submitted by 84 photographers across the state.

Flagpole members with accepted top photos were Robyn E. Abrams for “Solitary in Central Park,” “Master of the Dark Arts,” “Houston, We Have Lift Off!” and “The Fire In Her Eyes”; Mark Ashbolt for “Shallow Falls”; Michelle Babyak for “Boathouse Under the Milky Way”; Chane Cullens for “Sharing,” “Looking At You,” “A Previous Era,” and “Never Too Old To Go For A Ride”; Rhonda Cullens for “Chained to a Life of Begging” and “Sedona Reflections”; Jonathan Gordon for “Hudson Yards Vessel”; Darrell Harrington for “Early morning reflections,” “Beautiful,” “Rush hour on the Brooklyn Bridge,” and “Mistaya Canyon”; Sandy Schill for “Night Watchman”; and Rick Tyrseck for “Foggy Daybreak,” “Osprey Breakfast In Bed,” “Milky Way Over Nubble Light,” “Swift River Lower Falls,” and “Sunlights Last Kiss.”

Flagpole Club President Darrell Harrington was additionally as a medal winner for his Best in Landscape photo, “Mistaya Canyon.”

The 2020 Tops In Connecticut competition was held virtually on Saturday, November 7, 2020, and juried by three out-of-state award-winning judges: Canon Explorer of Light Darrell Gulin from Washington state, Tamron Ambassador and FotoPro Ambassador Lisa Langell from Arizona, and Olympus Visionary Peter Baumgarten from Ontario, Canada. The CAP competition is held every two years in even-number years with the results announced the following spring.

This year, the top images selected by the judges, each accompanied by narrated commentaries written by CAP board members, have been compiled into a YouTube video.
