The next meeting of The Genealogy Club of Newtown (GCN) is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, in the lower meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

Meetings start promptly at 7 pm, but those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early for socializing and light refreshments.

The club meets monthly, September through June, so this will be the final meeting of the 2018-19 season.

Toni McKeen, past president of GCN and a very popular speaker, will present a program on “Navigating Ship Manifests.”

Many people don’t learn much beyond the name of a ship relatives arrived in America on. Who were they were traveling to see? Were they detained, and if so, why? Who did they travel with? Who did they leave behind?

All these questions and more will be discussed during Ms McKean’s informative lecture.

A short business meting will following the presentation. Club members will discuss and vote on officers for 2019-20 and any other business at hand.

Meetings are open to all, but membership is also available. Cost is $20 annually per person or $30 for a family for the year.

Reservations are not required for GCN meetings and programs, but additional information is available by contacting Bea Morgan at 203-304-1861.

Booth Library’s Genealogy Room, recently relocated to the third floor, is open all year during library hours, Ms Bea Morgan is present on Monday afternoons from 2 to 4 pm, for help with searches.

A dedicated GCN computer is available to use free of charge, with ancestry.com and other programs available for research.
