The public is invited to explore Cherry Grove Preserve on Saturday, June 1, from 12:30 to 2:30 pm, on a hike through the Newtown Forest Association (NFA) property.

Join NFA board member and hike leader Aaron Coopersmith on a walk through the former Cherry Grove Farm. Participants should meet at a parking area off Palestine Road.

Saturday’s hike will be easy to moderate, child-friendly, and approximately two miles in length. Those planning to participate should wear appropriate footwear, sunscreen, and bring water.

Individuals, families, children, and groups are all welcome, as are well-behaved, leashed pets. Any groups planning on attending are asked to RSVP to Mr Coopersmith at 203-470-3815.

The Preserve connects adjoining town open space and other NFA properties. It is nearly 30 acres in total and is comprised of mature forests, meadows, and streams.

NFA is the oldest private land trust organization in the state. Its members are dedicated to preserving forests, agricultural lands, nature preserves, watersheds, and other open space lands in Newtown for the ongoing benefit of the plants, animals, and residents. The NFA is Newtown’s largest private land owner and now owns and protects more than 1,300 acres.

Because the NFA is a Private Land Trust, it is independent from town government. As a result, it relies primarily on the private giving of donors and members. Learn more at newtownforestassociation.org.
