Newtown High School’s tennis, baseball, and softball teams, on June 2, had their state tournament contests postponed by rain for a second straight day. Action is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, June 3.

The girls’ tennis team is slated to visit Fairfield Ludlowe at noon. Newtown’s boys’ tennis players have been eliminated from the tournament’s singles and doubles brackets, which were put on hold on June 2. On the fields, the baseball team will try again with New Milford visiting for a 3:30 pm first pitch, and the softball team hopes to welcome Glastonbury for a 4 pm start. The second and quarterfinal rounds have been pushed back a day.

As originally planned, the boys’ lacrosse team is scheduled to begin state tournament play with a visit to New Milford on June 3, beginning at 4:30 pm.

A few Newtown High squads — the girls’ golf team and girls’ and boys’ track and field teams — are playing on June 2, despite the rain. The golf team is participating in the South-West Conference championships, and the track competitors are expected to participate in the state championship meet.
