Relay For Life Needs Luminaria Photos

The Survivor Committee of the Newtown Relay For Life has issued a “last chance” call for pictures of cancer survivors and persons who lost their lives to cancer to be honored at the luminaria ceremony that will be held during the 2nd Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life at Newtown High School. The event will take place June 11–12.

Pictures should be dropped off to Alice Mascher at Coldwell Bankers/Bob Tendler Real Estate, 17 Church Hill Road. The deadline was June 1 but Ms Mascher said she only had received 20 photos so the deadline has been extended to this weekend.

Anyone who has questions can contact Ms Mascher at 426-5679. If a name and address are provided, the pictures will be returned.

Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event that mobilizes communities to celebrate survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), remember loved ones, and raise money for the fight against cancer. Teams of eight to 15 members will gather with tents and sleeping bags to join more than 4,000 communities nationwide that are hosting relays.

Relay For Life brings together friends, families, businesses, schools, and religious institutions, people from all walks of life. Teams seek sponsorships prior to the relay, all with the goal of eliminating cancer.

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives, diminishing suffering, and preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service. For more information on cancer, call the American Cancer Society at 800-ACS-2345, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or visit www.cancer.org
