Tour Of Jewish Cemeteries

WATERBURY — The Mattatuck Museum will sponsor a tour of Waterbury’s Jewish cemeteries on Sunday, June 6, from 2 to 4 pm.

Waterbury-based Attorney Gary Broder, a passionate historian and collector of Waterbury memorabilia who often loans objects for museum exhibits, will lead the tour to view gravestones at the cemeteries on Stillson Road in Waterbury.

Mr Broder will introduce Jewish burial and mourning customs and point out the significance of various symbols on Jewish graves.

The program is free, but pre-registration is required. Call the Mattatuck Museum at 203-753-0381 extension 10. Participants should meet in the parking lot of Wal-Mart off Stillson Road.

Please note that it is customary to cover one’s head when entering a Jewish cemetery, so plan to wear a hat or scarf during the program.
