Occupation: I specialize in information security and regulatory compliance. I’m a consultant for various businesses and corporations. I’m also a professional musician. I play with Outfunked, a jazz fusion band, and the Hadron Big Bangers, a progressive rock band, mostly.

Family: My wife is Lee Brownell, and we will have been married for 25 years in September. She’s a librarian at Newtown High School. We have two daughters, Zoe and Aria. Aria just graduated from SUNY Purchase College with a BFA in painting. Zoe graduated last year with a degree in mechanical engineering, from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Pets: We have two Siamese cats that are brothers. One is a “snowshoe Siamese,” named Wasabi. His brother is Kikkoman. We have a tuxedo cat, too, named Dali, because she has a moustache that curls up. And we’ll probably be adopting a Maine Coon cat that’s been hanging around our deck for a few weeks. I think we’ll call her “MC,” for Maine Coon. And my daughter’s cat may be moving in…

How long have you lived in Sandy Hook? We’ve been in Sandy Hook for 18 years, the longest I’ve ever lived anywhere.

What do you like to do in your free time? I play music and do art work. I do mixed media. That keeps me pretty busy. I’m the secretary for the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission and the entertainment director for the Newtown Arts Festival. I do like to read, too.

Do you have a favorite band? I would say King Crimson. I’d call them progressive rock.

What are you listening to these days? Yesterday, I was doing some art work, and had Red Hot Chili Peppers on. It could change from day to day, though. I’ve played in every band from punk rock to classical orchestra, so I listen to a lot of different music.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I have done so much traveling for work, my favorite vacation destination is home! I’ve been to just about every country in Europe, China and Japan, the Nordic countries, and probably 45 of the states in the US. It’s even a chore to hop on a plane and go to Florida, where my parents live. So, yes, home is the best place.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I think it’s just a genuinely nice community. We’ve made a lot of friends here. It’s pretty different for someone who grew up in the Bronx. It’s just a nice, pleasant place.

Who has been the greatest influence in your life? My wife. She keeps me focused on the important things, when I could get lost in my own little world. We’ve known each other for 40 years. I consult with her on everything, and we make decisions together.

Did you have a favorite toy, growing up? Actually, my favorite toy was my toy box. I loved the fact that I had a place for my toys. My parents thought they’d get rid of it once, and I freaked out. I don’t think they have it anymore, though. I cleaned out their home with them when they moved, and I didn’t see it.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Vanilla ice cream. I love any vanilla ice cream, but soft serve, especially. It’s something I should not be eating.
