Moving Violations

Police said they received a report of erratic driving on South Main Street late on the night of June 1. On investigating, police said they found motorist Franklin Vazquez, 20, of Danbury repeatedly swerving across the road’s centerline.

Police charged Vazquez with failure to drive to the right, driving without a driver’s license, and misuse of marker plates.

Police released Vazquez from their custody on a written promise to appear June 18 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Route 25 DUI

Police report that motorist Robert Scott, 44, of Trumbull was observed driving erratically northward on Route 25 late on the night of May 31. Scott struck some curbing alongside the northbound road shoulder, police said.

Police said they pulled over Scott and investigated, charging him with driving under the influence and making a restricted turn. After processing Scott’s arrest, police released him on a $70 bond for a June 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Deer Onto Roof

Motorist Joan Guertin, 46, of 14 Cherry Street was driving a 2000 Buick Regal northward on Queen Street about 8:18 am May 28, when a deer ran onto the road from southbound road shoulder, police said.

The deer jumped onto the roof of the Buick, police said. The deer damaged the auto’s roof, trunk lid, and left rear door. Guertin was not injured.

Toddy Hill Deer

Motorist Robin Marino, 43, of Wolcott was driving a 2002 BMW 325-XI four-door sedan southward on Toddy Hill Road about 6 am May 29, when a deer ran into the right side of the auto, police said. Marino was not injured, police said. No enforcement was taken.

Obtuse Crash

Motorist William Mantz, 16, of 9 Meadow Road was driving a 1991 Saab 900 northward on Obtuse Road about 12:03 am May 31, when he lost control of the auto, struck a small bridge and guardrailing, went across the road, and then struck a barn at 8 Obtuse Road, according to police.

Mantz was not injured. The barn received minor damage. Police gave Mantz a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

High Rock Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of High Rock Road and Kelly Court at about 2 pm May 23.

Motorist Gilman Lee, 59, of 11 Stone Bridge Trail was driving a 1986 Chevrolet El Camino pickup truck southward on High Rock Road, as motorist Laurence Conlon, 22, of 6 Kelly Court, who was driving a 1992 Honda Prelude, began to make a turn from Kelly Court into High Rock Road, resulting in a collision with the Chevrolet, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Conlon a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Mile Hill Accident

Motorist Teresa Papalia, 24, of 55 Sugar Street, who was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer, was traveling eastward on Mile Hill Road and then turned right onto Tinkerfield Road about 8:20 pm May 23, when the Ford was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Sedaliu Merita, 39, of 152 South Main Street, who was driving a 1995 Honda Civic, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Merita a written warning for following too closely.

South Main MVA

Southbound motorist Elizabeth Haynes, 19, of 17 Main Street, who was driving a 1996 Saab 900, was stopped behind another stopped southbound vehicle at a red traffic signal 228 South Main Street at about 6 pm May 27, police report.

Police said Haynes told them that the traffic light turned green and she then proceeded forward, but drove into the rear end of a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was driven by Susan Craig, 46, of Brookfield.

There were no injuries. Police issued Haynes a written warning for following too closely.

Incident

Police report a June 1 incident in which two people were charged.

Police charged Jeff Ruopp, 16, of 46-A Hawleyville Road with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct.

Police said they charged Walt Ruopp, 46, of the same address, with disorderly conduct. Police said they released both for June 2 appearances in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Mailbox Vandalism

Police are investigating a vandalism spree in which someone damaged residential mailboxes on Narragansett Trail, Glen Road, and Philo Curtis Road between 8 pm May 25 and 7:40 am May 26. The crimes committed are third degree criminal mischief.

Larceny

Police are investigating the theft of a motor vehicle from a residence on Berkshire Road. The thief stole the vehicle sometime between 1 pm May 29 and 7:30 am May 30. The stolen auto was later located at a construction site in Monroe and was returned to its owner on May 30, police said.

The crime committed is first degree larceny, representing the theft of items worth more than $10,000. Police ask anyone with information about the theft to contact them at 426-5841.

Burglary

Sometime between 8:30 am and 7 pm on May 23, someone broke into a Pebble Road home and stole unspecified items, police report. Police are investigating.

Route 34 Crash

Police report that motorist Lee S. Eckert, 36, of Stamford was driving a 2000 Audi S-4 eastward on Route 34 about 10:20 pm May 31, when a westbound auto, which appeared to be a green Chevrolet Camaro, went out of control, collided with the left side of the Audi, and then drove off.

Eckert was not injured in the crash, police said. Police are investigating.

Palestine Collision

Motorist Santiago Molina, 29, of Shelton was driving a 2001 Isuzu garbage truck out of the driveway at 14 Palestine Road at 8:22 am May 29, when the truck collided with motorist Vicki McColl, 35, of 5 Putnam Drive, who was driving a 1999 Buick Century, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Molina a written warning for failure to grant the right of way from a driveway.

Squirrel On Road

Motorist Patricia McCarthy, 61, of 6 Crabapple Lane was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Passat station wagon northward on Queen Street at about 10 am May 29, when she saw a squirrel on the road and stopped the car, police said.

Northbound motorist Michael Margait, 41, of 7 Cherry Heights Terrace, who was driving a 1999 Nissan Altima, then drove into the rear end of the Volkswagen, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Margait a written warning for following too closely.

High School

Police said that following an incident at Newtown High School between two students, they charged a 15-year-old boy with disorderly conduct at about 12:30 pm June 3. Because the youth is under age 16, police did not disclose his identity.

After processing his arrest at the police station, police released the boy into the custody of his mother for a June 9 appearance in Danbury Juvenile Court.

Saab Vs Deer

Motorist Peter J. Reilly, 44, of 26 Queen Street was driving a 1996 Saab 900 sedan westward on Wasserman Way about 11:20 pm June 2, when a deer ran out from the left side of the road and struck the auto, damaging it, police said.

The animal then ran off into the woods to the south. Police said Reilly was not injured. No enforcement action was taken.
