Families United In Newtown Hosted Colorful And Joyful Rainbow Prom
Families United in Newtown (FUN) welcomed approximately 80 guests to its “Rainbow Prom” on Saturday, May 23 at Newtown Congregational Church for an unforgettable evening filled with music, friendship, dancing, food, and celebration.
The Great Room was transformed into a vibrant rainbow wonderland, decorated with colorful and festive décor that reflected the joyful spirit of the annual FUN Prom. Guests and volunteers arrived dressed in their finest attire and proudly walked the red carpet alongside their mentors from Newtown High School.
A dedicated team of volunteers helped decorate the venue, serve food, and support attendees throughout the evening. Dinner was generously prepared by Nick's Catering.
A special group painting activity was featured during the evening, led by FUN art leaders, Newtown High School juniors Claire Csaszar and Jolene Bracket. Guests were invited to help create a collaborative rainbow masterpiece by adding paint and textured embellishments to the artwork. Vibrant painted cotton balls added color and creative touches that brought depth, texture, and a sprinkle of fun to the final piece, creating a meaningful keepsake from the celebration.
DJ Chris “Chriskaboom” Sampson kept the celebration going with exciting music, colorful lights, and nonstop dancing that filled the room with energy and smiles.
One of the highlights of the evening was the crowning of the 2026 Rainbow Prom Court. Winners were selected at random from a basket of names to ensure everyone had an equal opportunity to participate. The 2026 queen was Christine Spiegel and the king was Thomas Partridge, the Newtown High School Volunteers princess was junior Blake Heim, and the prince was senior Teddy Moxham.
The evening concluded with a spectacular rainbow cake generously provided by Rachel Crosby.
FUN’s final event of the school year will take place on Sunday, June 14, from 2-4 pm at Dickinson Park Bandshell, 50 Elm Drive and Brushy Hill Road. The event will feature a petting zoo, games, music, dancing, and a picnic-style potluck celebration honoring graduating seniors. Guests are encouraged to bring a cold salad, fresh fruit, dessert, or beverages such as water, lemonade, or iced tea. FUN will provide hot dogs and graduation cake topped with Ferris Acres Creamery ice cream for attendees.
Families United in Newtown continues its mission of creating inclusive social opportunities for children, teens, and adults with special needs and their families throughout the community.
