Marilynn Mattson Lang died peacefully in her Newtown home on Saturday, June 5. She was five days shy of her 88th birthday. A native of Denver, Marilynn moved east when she married Briscoe Lang in 1958. They settled in Newtown in 1970.

Marilynn loved being around people and going out to breakfast and lunch with friends. She had a wicked sense of humor and a deep and abiding love for her family and friends, and for life itself. She truly got every drop of living out of her time on this earth, and while they are devastated, her family knows that her life was long and full.

Marilynn enjoyed reading, and especially loved spending time at the family’s beach house on Long Island. She worked many jobs over the years, but her favorite was the time she spent in the guidance office at Newtown Middle School.

She is survived by her brother, Fred, of Denver; her daughter, Susan, of Woodbury; and her sons, Briscoe (Grace) of Rhode Island and Fred of Newtown, along with her three grandchildren. She also leaves behind many beloved friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Briscoe.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the Friends of the Cyrenius H. Booth Library Inc, 25 Main Street, Newtown CT 06470.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, June 19, from 1 to 3 pm, at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown. The family asks you to wear bright colors, in keeping with Marilynn’s positive spirit. Burial will be private.
