Business name: Thatcher Clay Studio

Address: 218 South Main Street, Newtown

Owners: Derek Thatcher

What is your business background? My background is in mental health; I have experience working with LBGTQ kids and kids on the spectrum. I have coached tennis for 15 years.

What is your business’ focus? My focus is on building community in Newtown of creative and kind people. I’m looking to partner with local businesses and organizations. We’re adult-geared in terms of the pottery studio. We go from start to finish; our model is to teach people to make their own usable dinnerware. We do individual classes and group workshops. We also do birthday parties and events. Our single sessions are for one time events, where participants will get a cool keepsake they made themselves.

What is something important to you that readers know about your business? It’s the people that make the pottery studio what it is. The community here has blossomed into something really special — we have a variety of artists from different mediums working together and sharing in a think tank.

Do you have any upcoming events? We will have a booth at the Catherine Hubbard Butterfly Party, from 12 to 4 pm, Saturday, June 10, at the Fairfield Hills Campus, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown. We’re really excited to participate in that. We’ve donated a free session for up to five people to help raise money.

Hours: Wednesday and Thursday, 12 to 8 pm; Friday, 9:30 am to 7 pm; Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm; Sunday, 9 am to 4 pm.
