Lubers Win Babe Ruth Championship
The Mobil One Lube Express Lubersâ baseball team won Newtownâs 12 year old Babe Ruth in-house championship game at Glander Stadium on June 20.
The Lubers defeated Hull Landscaping 14-2. In the game, every Luber crossed the plate to sweeten the combined effort. Geoff Santore pitched four nearly flawless innings, giving up only two runs on four hits. Santore was the Game MVP with two home runs, a triple, and a double.
The Lubersâ offensive attack started in the first inning when Sam Duffy smacked the first of his three hits and was knocked in by a Santore double. Daniel Pearson doubled twice, Justin Dunn added three hits, including a three-run double, and Owen Samson, Grant Untiedt, and Frankie Mattia added two hits each. Vijay Makayee and Ryan Argraves also knocked in runs. Samson pitched the fifth inning, closing out the game on a strikeout and two ground balls.
