Farewell To A Friend: Liberty Baggett
Liberty Baggett finished her final day of work on June 22, 2026.
She was only 9 years old, but as is the way for many golden retrievers, recent tests found cancerous tumors in her body. While her eyes tried to hide the pain or discomfort within her little body, we knew her journey was coming to an end sooner than anyone wanted to accept.
Libby was home, surrounded by those who loved her, when she took her final breath late Monday afternoon. We have no doubt Libby was greeted by our late friend and publisher, R. Scudder Smith, and the pack of Baggett goldens who preceded. She is now free to run, chase golf balls, and get unlimited scratches from her Grampy.
We extend our sincere condolences to the Baggett family as they mourn their loss. We also thank everyone for their encouragement in recent days and weeks while Libby did her final rounds at 5 Church Hill Road and her world outside the work place. Her absence is felt by generations of friends and admirers.
Banks Baggett has been promoted to senior security dog at Bee Publishing Company, and we will guide her as she adjusts to life without Libby and the important role she has inherited.
