‘Newtown Images’ Going Into Municipal Center

The Town of Newtown/Office of First Selectman Pat Llodra and The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will jointly sponsor an art show at Newtown Municipal Center this month.

“Newtown Images: New England Charm” will offer a collection of art by local artists that will evoke a feeling or impression of Newtown through stately barns, farm structures and equipment, open vistas, period houses, lakes, streams and paths, local businesses and shopping areas, landscapes and other elements of nature. The art is not solely limited to Newtown’s familiar landmarks, and organizers hope it will create a sense of local color as well as a connection to its unique expanse.

“Newtown Images” will be on view at the municipal center, within Fairfield Hills at 3 Primrose Street, during regular town office hours (Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm).

An opening reception is planned for Saturday, July 10, from 2 to 4 pm. On that day there will also be a special presentation of photographs of Fairfield Hills Hospital when it was still in use as a state mental hospital.

The municipal center, usually closed on weekends, will be open Saturday and Sunday, July 10-11, from 10 am to 4 pm, for viewing of the exhibition.

The show’s opening days will also coincide with the 35th Annual Friends of Booth Library Used Book Sale. That event will be presented Saturday through Wednesday, July 10-14, at Reed School, opposite the Fairfield Hills campus at 3 Trades Lane.

Co-chairs of the art show are Rosemary Rau and Marianne Scanlon, who can be reached for additional information at 203-426-2226 and 203-426-5283, respectively.
