Summer Reading Program For Adults

By Nancy K. Crevier

Why should kids have all the fun during the summer? That is the question that librarians at C.H. Booth Library asked themselves, and the answer is, adults get to have fun, too.

The first Adult Summer Reading program at the library is underway, with registration available on-line at chboothlibrary.org through August 20. Just like the young peoples’ summer reading programs, adults who take part are eligible to win great prizes for doing something they love to do — read.

Registered participants can fill out a book report and drop it into the decorated raffle box on the second floor of the library, near the main circulation desk. Twice this summer, once in July and once in August, winners will be drawn to win free passes and gift certificates to local businesses and restaurants.

Ricci’s Salon and Spa will get toes ready for sandal weather with a pedicure/manicure. Sal e Pepe Contemporary Italian Bistro owners have donated a $25 gift certificate to their restaurant. The Newtown Youth Academy Sports and Fitness Center is giving away a free month of fitness, a personal training session (new members only), a speed group training, and a free inflatable when you book a birthday party. The Friends of the C.H. Booth Library have provided a $20 gift certificate at the only book store in Newtown, The Book Nook, which is located next to the Circulation Desk on the second floor. There are also gift certificates for Borders and Loews Cinema. Look for more great prizes from different Newtown merchants for the August drawing.

A film series and a night of hula dancing are all part of the fun for adults in the Summer Reading Program, too, said librarian Kim Weber. At the end of the summer, a list of everyone’s favorite reads will be collected from the book review forms.
