To The Editor:

On Wednesday, June 19, the Newtown Bridge Club hosted its third annual Longest Day event as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. This year, we had both bridge and Scrabble games in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Local restaurateurs and stores provided the complimentary food that was served throughout the event. The players also enjoyed lovely dinner music by pianist Stan Kishner and his SJK Jazz quartet.

We had 58 Duplicate bridge tables, 7 Social bridge tables and 41 Scrabblers in attendance. Through the players’ generosity and that of other club members, family, and friends, we were able to raise over $9,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. The association supports those living with dementia and their caregivers, and it advances research which hopefully will find a prevention and/or a cure for this insidious disease.

We so appreciate The Bee’s fabulous coverage of our event!

Thank you to each of our wonderful sponsors: Bagel Delight, Barnwood Grill, Big Y, Blue Colony Diner, Butcher’s Best, Café Xpresso, Caraluzzi’s, Costco, Dunkin’ Donuts, Farmhouse Restaurant, Figs, Franco’s Pizza & Pasta, Frank Pepe, King’s, Leo’s Restaurants, Market Place, My Place, Newtown Deli and Catering, Newtown General Store, Nick’s Catering, Ninety Nine (99) Restaurant & Pub, Papa Al’s Newtown, Red Rooster Pub, Sal e Pepe, ShopRite of Brookfield, Stew Leonard’s, Stop & Shop in Newtown, Subway in Sandy Hook, Tambascio’s, and The Villa.
