WASHINGTON — For the first time in the long history of Litchfield Jazz Festival, this year’s event will be presented in the new, state-of-the-art Tisch Family Auditorium in the Thomas S. Perakos Arts and Community Center at The Frederick Gunn School.

The school, at 22 Kirby Road in Washington Green (Conn.), has been the home of Litchfield Jazz Camp since 2018.

The Tisch performance hall is designed for acoustic excellence, and, with its impressive rake, there is not an obstructed-view seat in the house. Audiences will not struggle to see over the tall man in front or his sun-bonneted companion. Everyone can see and hear perfectly from everywhere in the cool, comfortable space when the 27th Annual Litchfield Jazz Festival is presented Friday through Sunday, July 29-31.

Guests will enjoy three days of jazz, bookended by two exciting fundraising parties for an unforgettable weekend.

The festival tips its hat to the love of the outdoor vibe with a Friday Night Gala and a Sunday Jazz Brunch, among events to be held en plein air.

The Gala, starting at 5:45 pm, segues into a concert by one of the most exciting young vocalists of the day, Samara Joy, with guitarist Pasquale Grasso and his quartet.

On Saturday before the Mainstage action begins, top Jazz Camp Combos will perform on the Dining Hall veranda, with listeners gathered on the green. Attendees will then get to listen to top-notch performers in the auditorium including drummer Anton Kot with the Litchfield Jazz Camp Faculty Quartet at 11:30 am, harmonicist Gregoire Maret and his Trio at 1 pm, and guitarist Mark Whitfield and his band at 3 pm.

Later that afternoon Ken Peplowski, the iconic clarinetist who played in his early career with Benny Goodman, will offer the Artist Talk. Peplowski, who may be the funniest man in music since Victor Borge, will be interviewed by Litchfield’s Operations Director Albert Rivera.

Rivera’s band will wrap it all up on Sunday at noon. With his Faculty All-Star Band, Rivera will turn Sunday’s New Orleans-style Jazz Brunch into a dance party in the pretty Bourne Courtyard.

Tickets start at $49; Saturday’s ticket includes four concerts.

Vocalist Samara Joy will headline the opening event of this year’s Litchfield Jazz Festival.
