Newtown Police Traffic Stop Snags Burglars, Altered Firearms

Newtown Police caught a 19-year-old and 17-year-old that had burglarized a location in Monroe in the early hours of Wednesday morning, July 26.

At approximately 1:30 am, Newtown Police were informed of a burglary at a commercial business that had just occurred on Route 25 in Monroe, where suspects had left the scene prior to police arrival. Newtown officers began checking local businesses and located a vehicle leaving a local smoke shop parking lot with no plates displayed and its headlights off.

The vehicle was stopped and further investigation revealed that the operator, Marcos Scott, 19, of Bridgeport, and a 17-year-old juvenile passenger had just committed the burglary in Monroe.

Monroe Police and Newtown Police continued to investigate and located two illegally possessed firearms inside the vehicle as well as stolen property from the burglary in Monroe.

Scott was charged by Monroe Police for his involvement in the burglary; he was then transferred to Newtown Police custody and charged with: Carrying a firearm without a permit, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, and failure to display a valid license plate.

Scott’s bail was set at $100,000 and he was transferred to Danbury Superior Court on July 26 for arraignment.

The juvenile was also charged in connection with the weapons and burglary by Monroe Police.
