The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary hosted a For the Love of Horses event at its property on Old Farm Road July 16.

The day started with a Color Guard Ceremony by the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard followed by a trail ride. Many horse-related organizations manned tables to share their knowledge. There were fun hands-on activities such as a hoof trimming demonstration by Donna Collins.

Many children got a chance to brush the coat of Little Bear, who came to the event with the Newtown Bridle Lands Association. Rising Starr Rescue brought two adorable mini horses who were enjoying lots of pets.

Abigail Nemec from Post University had horse shoes of every size and shape and spoke about foot anatomy. Mary Brown is an energy worker who talked to visitors about horses’ energy fields and chakras. Dr Denise Branecky of Fairfield Equine in Newtown answered any and all horse health-related questions.
