Failure to Appear

At about 10:52 pm on August 1, near 71 South Main Street, police said they stopped for investigation motorist Isaac Gyimah, 25, of Stratford, who was driving a Volkswagen Passat.

A records check indicated there was an outstanding warrant for Gyimah's arrest, so police charged him with second-degree failure to appear in court. That charge stems from alleged June motor vehicle violations by Gyimah elsewhere. Police held Gyimah on $500 bail for an August 2 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Lost Money

On the night of July 31, a 15-year-old boy reported to police that he had lost a sum of money and wanted to learn if anyone had found it.

Police said that while bicycling on Church Hill Road near

The Newtown Bee office that day, a Danbury Savings Bank envelope that contained approximately $650 apparently fell out from the boy's pocket and was lost. The boy had earned that money performing summer jobs.

Police are investigating and ask anyone who may have found the money lying along the section of Church Hill Road between its intersections with Queen Street and Main Street to contact police at the police station at 3 Main Street regarding case #17-14482. The police telephone number is 203-426-5841.

NHS Arrest

Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest, Eugene Citrano, 60, of Sandy Hook went to the police station about 5:22 pm on July 30.

Police said they charged Citrano with breach of peace in connection with a disturbance that occurred on May 22 at Newtown High School. After processing, police released Citrano on a written promise to appear on August 15 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

SUV Vs Bus

About 9:52 am on July 28, motorist Elizabeth Yamin, 62, of Bethel, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Rogue SUV westward on Hattertown Road, stopped at a stop sign at that street's intersection with Route 302.

At that time, Stephen Morris, 58, of Newtown was driving a bus without passengers westward on Route 302, police said. The Nissan then entered the intersection, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Morris to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Yamin received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Botsford Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the four-way intersection of South Main Street, Button Shop Road, and the driveway for Plaza South at about 1:42 pm on July 28.

In that incident, motorist Kimberly Hufschmied, 51, of Newtown, who was driving a 2016 Honda CR-V SUV, was waiting at a red traffic signal at the driveway for Plaza South, and was preparing to make a left turn onto northbound South Main Street, according to police.

At that time, trucker Joseph Goss, 51, of Bridgeport was driving a 1997 Ford truck southward on South Main Street. The Honda then entered the intersection on the red signal, resulting in the two vehicles colliding.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Hufschmied a written warning for failure to obey a traffic control signal.

I-84 Lane Change

State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9 in the area where a climbing lane ends, at about 5:03 pm on July 28.

Motorist Angela Lake, 28, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., who was driving a 2016 Hyundai Tucson SUV, attempted to merge to the left, but accidentally sideswiped a 2007 Volvo truck driven by Aliksandr Pukhouski, 38, of Bridgewater, Va. There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Lake for making an improper lane change.

Five Charges

Police report that at about 7:30 am on July 27, they arrested Michael Maguire, 41, of New London on a warrant, lodging five charges against him stemming from a complaint that they received in November 2016.

Police charged Maguire with one count of credit card theft, three counts of sixth-degree larceny, and one count of attempted sixth-degree larceny in connection with his alleged theft and use of another person's credit card.

Police held Maguire on $10,000 bail for an arraignment that day in state Superior Court in Danbury.

At his court arraignment, Maguire pleaded not guilty to all charges. Maguire was released on a written promise to appear in court on August 31.

Chevy Vs Chevy

About 11:08 am on July 27, motorist Maria Colon Coronado, 36, of Rye, NY, who was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV southward on South Main Street, north of Park Lane, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Chevrolet was struck from behind by southbound motorist Trisha Fabrizi, 31, of Newtown, who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV, police report.

There were no injuries. Police gave Fabrizi a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Car Keys Found

Police report that on July 25, they received for safekeeping a set of car keys. The keys were found by a passerby near 45 Hoseye Coach Road, near that road's intersection with Marlin Road. Police believe the keys are for a silver-colored Hyundai Elantra compact car.

The owner may claim the keys by contacting police Officer Stephanie Thibodeau at the police station at 3 Main Street, 203-426-5841.

Jeep Down Bank

Motorist Rinaldo DaSilva, 54, of Bridgeport was driving a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV southward on Hattertown Road, near the Monroe town line, about 4:38 pm on July 25, when the vehicle veered to the right and then struck some guardcabling, after which it hit 13 wooden guardposts and drove down an embankment.

The Jeep stopped after it struck a guy wire for a utility pole. There were no injuries. After investigating, police issued DaSilva an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Two Shoplifting Cases

Police report that two shoplifting incidents occurred at Big Y, a supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street in the borough.

At about 6:15 pm on both July 24 and July 26, a man in his 20s stole some energy drinks from the store. Store surveillance photos of the two incidents show a man with a generally similar appearance, but its is unclear if it was the same person who committed both thefts.

Truck Hits Tree

Trucker Glenn Mushnick, 55, of Northbridge, Mass., was driving a 1998 Peterbilt truck westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 4:49 am on July 22, when the truck struck a tree that was lying across the road, state police said.

Mushnick was not injured. State police took no enforcement.

Car Off Road

A one-vehicle accident occurred on Mt Pleasant Road, near its western intersection with Tory Lane about 9:23 pm on July 22.

Police report that motorist Theodore Rogers, 29, of Danbury was driving a 2016 Ford Fusion auto westward on Mt Pleasant Road, when he lost control of the auto while taking a left curve in the roadway, after which the vehicle struck some curbing and then hit an embankment.

There were no injuries. Police issued Rogers an infraction for making a restricted turn and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Ford Vs Volkswagen

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Waterview Drive in the Riverside section about 6:11 pm on July 20.

Police report that motorist Colby Troy, 16, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta auto northward on Waterview Drive, as motorist Matthew Snellman, 16, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2003 Ford Windstar minivan, attempted to exit a driveway there and make a right turn onto Waterview Drive. The two vehicles collided.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Snellman for failure to grant the right of way at a driveway.

Construction Site

Police report a three-vehicle accident at a construction site near 116 South Main Street about 5:17 pm on July 19. The accident involved two SUVs and an excavator used at the site for the construction project.

Involved in the accident were motorist Rachael Daum, 16, of Newtown, who was driving a 2005 Honda Pilot SUV, motorist Wende Wenis, 44, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2014 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, and equipment operator Nicholas Pinto, 56, of Newington, who was driving a Caterpillar 308-E excavator, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Daum an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.

A pickup truck, which was towing a camping trailer, smashed into the rear end of a sedan on eastbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 10 on-ramp, about 3:10 pm on July 28, resulting in extended travel delays on the highway at the start of the evening rush. State police said that motorist Ana Aucay, 19, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima, above, stopped for traffic conditions in the left lane of three lanes, after which the Altima was struck from behind by a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado K-3500 LT pickup truck hauling a camping trailer, driven by Anthony Kaplanis, 45, of New Fairfield. The impact heavily damaged the Nissan. Aucay and one of four passengers in the Chevrolet reported possible injuries, but both refused to be transported by ambulance. Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company and Bethel Ambulance responded. State police issued Kaplanis an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
