Watercolor Landscape Demo At Next SCAN Meeting

Lalit Masih will be the featured demonstrator at the Wednesday, August 9, meeting The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN).

The meeting will begin at 7:30 pm at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street. Non-members are welcome, and there is no admission charge.

Mr Masih’s study of art began in his native country, India. He studied traditional Indian Art with R.C. Sathi, a professional North Indian artist, and continued with courses in drawing and painting at Syracuse University.

In 1980 he enrolled in the School of Visual and Performing Arts at CW Post College, Long Island University, where he earned a master’s degree in fine arts.

Since completing his academic studies, he has concentrated on exploring watercolor as a primary medium of expression. This led to a number of workshops with leading watercolorists including Rex Brandt, Robert Hallet, Carlton Plummer, Christopher Schink, Frank Webb, Robert E Wood and Milford Zornes.

Over the years Mr Masih has exhibited extensively in a number of national juried shows including those hosted by American Watercolor Society, National Academy of Design and National Watercolor Society. He has won numerous awards for his watercolors and many of his paintings are in private collections.

He is currently an artist member of the Salmagundi Club, Allied Artists of America, North East Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society, as well as a signature member and Dolphin Fellow of the American Watercolor Society.

Mr Masih was recently featured in the magazine Watercolor Magic (April 2005), in an article entitled “Simple by Design,” which helped readers learn to simplify complex scenes by using basic design principles. This information will be shared with the audience at the SCAN demonstration.
