Gerrish F. Smith

Gerrish F. Smith died at his home in Palm Coast, Fla., July 29.

 He leaves his loving wife of 63 years, Gertrude; his sons Clifford Smith of Newtown and Gerrish Smith of South Carolina; grandsons Craig Smith and Kevin Smith from Newtown, and Mathew Smith of South Carolina; granddaughter Jeannie Geisler; and four great-grandchildren.

He spent his summers at the family’s cottage at Lake Hayward in Colchester, Conn. Gerrish graduated from New Britain High School and attended Hilyer College.

He was a World War II veteran stationed in many states, and fought in the European theater where he earned a Purple Heart. He was formerly a manager at an industrial bearing company, and was an active participant in local religious and civic organizations his whole life. He was an active member of the 94th Infantry Division Florida and its national affiliates; Palm Coast DVA and VFW Post 8696.

Gerrish and Gertrude Smith moved to Palm Coast in 1983 from Newington, Conn. He enjoyed visiting family and friends, music, bridge, and worldwide travel with his wife.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 156 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast, on August 6, at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers Mrs Smith requests that donations be sent to Trinity Presbyterian Church memorial fund, 156 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast FL 32137.
