Two Local Residents Join Staff Of Regional Heart Center

DANBURY — Donna M. Duris of Newtown and Thomas Doherty of Sandy Hook are members of the staff of the Regional Heart & Vascular Center that opened this year at Danbury Hospital.

A 20-year veteran of Danbury Hospital, Donna Duris has been a registered nurse in both the coronary care unit and intensive care unit at the hospital and is now in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit at the hospital’s regional heart center. She is certified in critical care nursing, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, and basic life support.

She is a board and active member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, including the local Western Connecticut Chapter. She earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing with honors in 1985 from Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

Thomas Doherty is a registered nurse who has joined the cardiothoracic operating room nursing team.

Previously, Mr Doherty spent 24 years working at Bridgeport Hospital. During his last ten years there, he was a nurse in the operating room as part of the cardiothoracic/vascular team. Earlier in his career, he was a certified surgical technologist.

While at Bridgeport Hospital, Mr Doherty completed the mentorship training program, chaired the Cluster Team Organization Committee, was president of the operating room staff, and was a member of many committees. He frequently was a guest instructor for both the Perioperative RN and Surgical Technologist Programs in the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing.

He earned a nursing diploma from Bridgeport Hospital’s School of Nursing, and matriculated academic requirements at Housatonic Community College.
