Botsford Collision

Motorist Kathleen Aiello, 64, of Bethel, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV northward on South Main Street about 5:14 pm July 30, stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto Meadow Brook Road, after which the Chevrolet was struck from behind by northbound motorist Michael Peterson, 34, of Bethel, who was driving a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued Peterson a written warning for following too closely.

DUI Arrest

Police report they spotted a motorcyclist traveling on Riverside Road on a vehicle with no marker plate on the afternoon of July 31, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged motorcyclist Victor Miles, 48, of 4 Underhill Road with driving under the influence, driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to have automotive insurance, failure to display a marker plate, and driving without a license.

After processing, police released Miles on $250 bail for an August 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Theft From Vehicle

Sometime between 7:30 pm July 28, and 7:20 am July 29, someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked at a Washington Avenue address and stole a carton of Marlboro Light cigarettes from the vehicle, police said.

Police are investigating the theft and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 426-5841.

Interfering

Police report that John E. McNulty, 52, of 73 Cedar Hill Road was spotted slumped over within a parked vehicle at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street early on the morning of August 4, after which police attempted to have McNulty transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked.

Police said that McNulty became combative with police, after which police arrested him on a charge of interfering with police.

Police then held McNulty on $150 bail for an arraignment later that day in Danbury Superior Court.

Nissan Hits Pole

Motorist Robert G. Raino, 21, of Bridle Path Trail, who was driving a 2001 Nissan sedan southward near 34 Brushy Hill Road about 2:20 am July 26, approached a curve in the road, lost control of the Nissan, crossed into the opposite lane and then struck a utility pole head-on, police said.

Raino was not injured. An electric utility crew checked the pole for damage.

Police issued Raino an infraction for failure to drive to the right.

Warrant

Police report they arrested Lisa Britto, 18, of Southbury on a warrant on August 2 on charges of evading responsibility and making a restricted turn in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred early on the morning of July 4 on Bear Hills Road in Botsford. Britto came to the police station to turn herself over to police after learning that they held a warrant for her arrest.

Police have said that Britto, who was driving a 1997 Dodge sedan, was traveling eastward on Bear Hills Road, but failed to negotiate a curve in the road at Bear Hills Road’s intersection with Blue Spruce Drive, after which the car traveled off the road and collided with a stone wall and tree near 14 Bear Hills Road.

Police have said that when they arrived at the scene, there was no driver inside the auto. Britto later came to the police station and told police that the auto had hydroplaned as she attempted to make the curve, resulting in the crash.

After processing on August 2, police released Britto for an August 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

MV Violation

Police said that while conducting an investigation on Harvest Common Road about 7:10 pm August 2, they made a routine license check on motorist Lance Goodridge, 47, of Norwalk, during which they found his license to be suspended.

Police charged Goodridge with driving with a suspended license. Police released Goodridge on a written promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on August 14.

Fairfield Hills Vandalism

About 7:50 pm July 28, police were called to Fairfield Hills to investigate a complaint of vehicular vandalism.

Police said they found that someone had intentionally damaged a tire on a parked motor vehicle.

An investigation led to a charge of third-degree criminal mischief being lodged against Adolph Riga, 46, of 51 Hanover Road, police said.

After arrest processing, police released Riga on $2,500 bail for an August 12 court appearance.  

Four MV Charges

At about 8:30 am on August 4, police stopped motorist James Howard, 32, of 19 Botsford Hill Road on that street to investigate motor vehicle violations.

Police charged Howard with driving while under suspension, a seat belt violation, failure to have an automotive insurance identification card, and with driving an unregistered motor vehicle.

Police released Howard on a written promise to appear in court on August 11 to answer the charges.

Interstate Crash

About 1:20 pm August 2, motorist Tatiana Ekimova Butler, 34, of Harwinton was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry on the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, when she lost control of the vehicle and skidded onto the right road shoulder, colliding with about a 30-foot section of steel guard cabling, state police said.

The area is the scene of many similar accidents. State police said Butler was not injured. Butler received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

 

Construction Tools

Sometime between 3:45 pm on August 1, and 9 am on August 4, someone stole a chop saw and an accompanying stand from a commercial construction site on Turnberry Lane in Curtis Corporate Park, off Toddy Hill Road.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on who stole the equipment to call their tip line at 270-8888.

Rear-Ender

Police report a two-car motor vehicle accident, which involved a police officer on duty, at the intersection of Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, Glen Road, and Church Hill Road at about 9:14 am July 31.

Motorist Joseph Canas, 36, of Beacon Falls, who was driving a 2006 Volkswagen sedan, was waiting on northbound Washington Avenue for traffic to clear so that he could make a left turn onto westbound Church Hill Road, when the Volkswagen was struck from behind by police Officer Robert Haas, 52, who was driving a marked 2008 Ford Crown Victoria police patrol car, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Haas for following too closely.

Four-Vehicle MVA

Police report a four-vehicle accident about 9:25 am August 3 at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and Farrell Road.

Motorist Richard Ferrara, 24, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML-500 SUV southward on Hawleyville Road, missed a turn and then attempted to make a U-turn at Farrell Road, police said.

That maneuver resulted in an accident involving the Mercedes and three other vehicles being driven southward on Hawleyville Road, police said.

Those vehicles were a 2007 Honda Pilot SUV driven by Michael Basso, 47, of New Milford; a 1996 Toyota sedan driven by Jennifer Gontarz, 44, of Greenwich; and a 1999 Honda coupe driven by Alex Valentine, 45, of 13 Turkey Hill Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Hawleyville firefighters went to the accident. Ferrara received an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Audi Damaged

Police report they learned about 9:20 am August 2 that a 2002 Audi Allroad Quattro station wagon, which was properly parked near the street in front of 12 Sunset Hill Road, received body damage when an unknown eastbound vehicle struck the unoccupied Audi and then drove away from the scene.

Police ask anyone with information on who damaged the Audi to contact investigating Officer Todd Dingee at 426-5841.

Hawleyville Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Hawleyville Road about 4:50 pm July 31.

Motorist Mike Neiman, 62, of 6 Fox Run Lane South, who was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck on Hawleyville Road, slowed in preparing to make a right turn into the driveway at 34 Hawleyville Road, when the GMC was hit from behind by motorist Alex Shepack, 17, of Litchfield, who was driving a 1996 Volvo 850 sedan, police report.

There were no injuries. Shepack received an infraction for following too closely.

Volvo Vs Chevy

Motorist Christa Jacaruso, 33, of Stafford, who was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier southward near 120 South Main Street about 5:50 pm July 31, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by southbound motorist Thomas Larsen, 21, of Danbury, who was driving a 1991 Volvo 12-S sedan, police report.

There were no injuries. Larsen received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Bag on Bridge

Police said they were called to investigate the presence of a bag that had been spotted lying atop a railroad bridge on Brennan Road, near Georges Hill Road, about 8 pm August 5.

Police said they found a blue and black duffel bag there, which contained both a sleeping bag and a pillow.

The owner may contact Officer Matthew Wood at the police station at 426-5841 to claim the item.

Alcohol Charge

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, a male teenager came to the police station on the night of August 5 and was arrested on a charge of allowing a minor to possess alcohol.

Police said the youth had allowed another younger youth to possess alcohol in a May 17 early morning incident at a Mile Hill Road South residence.

The boy whom police arrested is considered a youthful offender because he was either age 16 or age 17 when the incident occurred, and thus his identity is shielded by state law.

After processing the arrest, police released the boy on a written promise to appear August 22 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

DUI Warrant

Police said that after she was detained at the Derby Police Department on the afternoon of August 6, they went there to take into custody Diane L. Balkun, 20, of Ansonia, whom they wanted on a warrant in connection with a March 12 motor vehicle accident on Pole Bridge Road in Sandy Hook.

Police charged Balkun with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

In the March 12 accident, Balkun was driving a 2002 Ford Escape sport-utility vehicle northward on Pole Bridge Road, when the vehicle entered the southbound lane and then went off the left side of the road, striking a large tree head-on.

After processing the arrest, police released Balkun on $200 bail for an August 20 court appearance.

Minivan Vs SUV

About 4:45 pm August 5, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Lakeview Terrace, near its intersection with Lakeview Terrace Extension.

Police said motorist Frank Booth, 37, of 117 Huntingtown Road was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Venture minivan carrying five passengers westward, while motorist Timothy Gibbons, 38, of 15 Spring Street was driving a 2008 Chevrolet HHR sport-utility vehicle eastward.

The vehicles encountered each other on a curve and collided, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
