Quilts Needed At Meeting House, Temporarily
The Newtown Junior Women's Club (NJWC) is seeking quilts for display at its
annual "Quilts at the Meeting House" exhibit, to be held this year on
Saturday, October 25. The event will be held at the Newtown Meeting House, at
31 Main Street, from 10 am to 4 pm.
This will be the fifth year the club presents the fundraising event. Last
year's exhibit presented 88 quilts, all hand made by individuals or groups. Of
the entries, 12 were antique quilts. Over 275 people visited the show when it
was held last November 1.
"Quilts at the Meeting House" features handmade new and vintage quilts of all
sizes. The event also features quilt supply vendors and refreshments. Proceeds
from the event benefit NJWC's community fund.
By means of fundraising and project sponsorship, NJWC serves a number of local
interests. In addition, the Newtown Junior Women's Club is part of a statewide
network of nearly 70 chapters who combine their efforts to support needy
organizations across the state.
To exhibit an individual or group-crafted quilt in this year's show, call
426-0357.
Autumn Observations
Visitors to "Quilts at the Meeting House" each year are asked to select the
quilt they feel merits a Best in Show honor. "Autumn Observations," hand
quilted by Judith Reilly, was the viewer's choice Best of Show in the 1996
show.
The quilt has also won a Best of Show in Lancaster, four years ago, as well as
three awards at the American International Quilt Festival.
