Selectmen Appoint A Land-Use Attorney

BY STEVE BIGHAM

Newtown's legal wars are being fought by committee these days, with several

attorneys in on the act.

Monday night, the Board of Selectmen hired yet another lawyer to represent the

town on land-use and conservation cases. Robert Fuller of Wilton was selected

for the job by the selectmen and will take over much of the work that had

previously been done by the law firm of Cohen & Wolfe of Danbury.

A former Superior Court judge, Mr Fuller served as town attorney in Wilton for

15 years and in New Canaan for three years. He is a land-use specialist and

author of the widely-used book, Connecticut Land Use Law and Practice, Volume

9 in the Connecticut Practice series.

Mr Fuller was hired after interviews with First Selectman Herb Rosenthal,

Conservation Commission Chairman Donald Lawrensen, and Planning & Zoning

Chairman Stephen Koch.

On Monday, attorney Paul Pollock was re-appointed to serve as counsel on

certain Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) issues and for certain lawsuits

regarding the Cyrenius H. Booth Library construction project.

Attorney David Grogins of Cohen & Wolfe of Danbury will continue to serve the

town in certain continuing Planning & Zoning cases.

Timothy Bates of Bartinik, Gianacoplos, Bates, Brown, and Grater PC of Groton

was also reappointed to continue his handling of the Newtown Village lawsuit.

Also reappointed was Robinson & Cole, the town's bond counsel for the

municipal sewers.

A general purpose town attorney has not yet been appointed.
