Warehouse/Office Buildings Proposed For Peck's Lane

A development firm wants to build two 10,000-square-foot buildings on Peck's

Lane that would serve as combination warehouse/office buildings.

Oak Street Design and Construction, represented by engineer Larry Edwards, has

submitted plans for the project to the Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z).

The Conservation Commission, serving as the town's inland wetlands and

watercourses commission, endorsed the development project last December. The

construction work would involve filling in approximately 0.03 acres of

wetlands.

Each of the two proposed buildings would be divided into five

2,000-square-foot industrial units, according to the plans pending before the

P&Z.

The owner of record of the 4.7-acre parcel where the two buildings would be

constructed is Newtown Savings Bank. The land lies in an M-5 zone, in which a

variety of industrial uses are allowed under the town's zoning regulations.

The two warehouse/office buildings would be supplied with a public water

supply from United Water and natural gas service from Yankeegas, according to

the development plans.

The applicant wants to lease out the proposed 10 2,000-square-foot units to

industrial service contracting customers such as electricians, plumbers and

heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) firms.

According to the plans submitted to the town, each of the 10 units would

include a relatively small area designated for office use.

General retail sales would not be allowed on the premises.

The site lies south of Peck's Lane's northerly intersection with South Main

Street. The site is west of Peck's Lane and east of South Main Street.

The P&Z plans to conduct a public hearing on the development proposal,

possibly in June.
