Recount Doesn't Change Council Election Outcome

Last week's election included a very close race for one of the District 2

Legislative Council seats.

Republican incumbent Karen Blawie received just five more votes than

Democratic candidate Sutherland Denlinger -- close enough to require a

re-count by state law. So on Sunday, voting officials spent more than three

hours going over the voting machines once again. The results, however,

remained the same.

The only news to come out of the recount, according to Town Clerk Cindy Curtis

Simon, was that Democrat Peggy Baiad received one extra vote for the council.

No matter, though. Mrs Baiad received more than enough votes last Tuesday. She

is one of the council's four new members, joining fellow Democrat Tim Holian

and Republicans Brian White and Ed Lucas.
