FBI ASSISTS IN RIVERSIDE INTRUDER INVESTIGATION
Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have been brought in to assist the
Newtown police with the investigation of several incidents of an intruder in
the Riverside section of Sandy Hook last summer.
Four FBI agents, several state police officers and members of the local
department canvassed homes in Riverside last week to reinterview the
homeowners.
"The FBI allowed us to use some of their resources because they have
experience in these type of cases," said Newtown Police Det Robert Tvardzik.
"We recanvassed the entire neighborhood to see if they could get additional
information."
Det Tvardzik said the FBI has taken a keen interest in the case because it is
similar to cases in other parts of the country and a profile of this type of
offender has been developed.
In June several residents said their homes had been entered during the night
by an unknown person, apparently through an unlocked door or window. The
intruder had entered the bedrooms where children were sleeping. In one
instance, an infant was moved to a different location in the house. The
children were not harmed and nothing was stolen.
Det Tvardzik said no additional incidents have been reported since June 30 but
the investigation will continue and the neighborhood will continue to be
watched.
