Mary Ann Stella
Mary Ann Schoen Stella, 66, mother of JoAnn Larnerd of Newtown, died August
10, at Mediplex Health Care Center, Danbury. She was the wife of Thomas J.
Stella, 14 Beechwood Drive, Danbury.
Mrs Stella was born in Danbury on December 24, 1928, a daughter of Emeran and
Madeline Dunleavy Schoen. A lifelong resident, she attended local schools.
She was employed in the bindery department of Danbury Printing and Litho Inc.
until she retired at age 62.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, John Stella of Gridley,
Ill., and Jeffrey Stella of Waterbury; another daughter, Kathleen LeClair of
Danbury; two sisters Kay Garrison of Gaylordsville, and Lorraine Stadnik of
Danbury; a brother, Donald Schoen of Hamden; eight grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated August 14, at St Peter's Church.
Burial followed in St Peter's Cemetery.

Alice Drummond
Alice Adams Drummond, 88, grandmother of Steven Williamson of Newtown, died
August 10, at her home. A resident of Bethel since 1978, she was the wife of
the late Fred Drummond.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., February 18, 1907, a daughter of John Q. and
Rose Hafner Adams. She was employed as a teacher for many years with the New
York City public school system.
She was a member of St Thomas Episcopal Church, Bethel.
Mrs Drummond is also survived by a son, Fred Drummond of Long Island; two
daughters, Lorna Nixon of Long Island, and Alice Miken of Bethel; three other
grandchildren, Jeannie Williamson of Bethel, and Barbara and Jennifer
Williamson of Danbury; a five great-grandchildren.
Tomlinson Homestead, Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced.
Joseph Bilida
Joseph Bilida, 79, father of Wanda Keegan of Newtown, died August 10, in his
home in Orlando, Fla. He was the widower of Wanda Zaleski Bilida.
Born in Bridgeport, Mr Balida had been a city resident prior to moving to
Florida 20 years ago.
He was a WWII veteran of the US Army.
Mr Bilida was retired from Borden-Mitchell Dairy where he had been employed
for over 25 years. He was also the former owner of Lee's Drive-In, Monroe, and
Botsford Drive-In, Newtown.
He is also survived by another daughter, Catherine Sparks of Orlando, Fla.; a
step-daughter, Margetta Wallace of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sisters, Irene
Soltis of Forestville, and Barbara Bilida of Bridgeport; four grandchildren;
two great-granddaughters; one step-great-grandson; and several nieces and
nephews.
The funeral was held August 14, in the Pistey Funeral Home, Stratford, with
Archpriest Reverend Michael Koblosh officiating. Panikhida services were also
held at the funeral home. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery.
Marjorie Vavrek
Mrs Marjorie Vavrek, 80, mother of Lawrence Vavrek of Newtown, died August 10,
in Norwalk Hospital. And Easton resident, she was the wife of the late James
S. Vavrek.
Mrs Vavrek was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., daughter of the late Charles C. and
Roseann McBridge Walker. She had resided in Wesport for 39 years before moving
to Easton 12 years ago. Survivors include four other sons, Thomas Vavrek of
Madison, N.J., James and Gerlad Vavrek, both of Easton, and John Vavrek of
Aspen, Colo.; one brother, Albert Walker of Jackson Heights, N.Y.; three
sisters, Kathryn Makowsky of Stamford; Rosemary Thompson of Largo, Fla., and
June Garvey of Mamaroneck, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and many nieces and
nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place August 14, at Notre Dame of Easton.
Interment was in Assumption Cmemetery, Greens Farms.
The Harding-Lewis Funeral Home, Westport, was in charge of arrangments.
Rose Kinast
Rose Krug Kinast, formerly of Newtown, died July 16, in California. She was
the wife of William M. Kinast of Rancho Bernardo, Calif.
She was born October 20, 1917, in Hanford, Wash., the youngest of 10 children.
While attending high school in Hanford, she had the starring role in the
school play for all four years, and had four letters in track and four in
basketball.
She attended the University of Washington, graduating with a BA with honors in
social work. She was a member of the Mortar Board Society.
During WWII, she worked as a social worker in a number of agencies. She worked
as a clinical psychiatric social worker doing counseling until after the war.
She received her MSSW in 1949 from the University of California, Berkley.
She served as a board member and president of the local YWCA, and worked to
encourage and help young women attain their potential. She also served a long
tour as president of the Union County Mental Health Association. Volunteering
in Westfield, N.J., as a juvenile court commissioner, fund raising for
political and social action groups, and child rearing filled up much of the
intervening years.
Mrs Kinast was an avid bridge player, loved flowers and wildlife, and enjoyed
attending Broadway theater. She was a member of AAUW, Wagon Wheels, Newcomers
Club, and Rancho Bernardo Joslyn Center.
She is also survived by a daughter, Susan K. Kinast-Porter of Monroe, Wis.; a
son, John K. Kinast of Philadelphia, Pa.; granddaughter, Heather; a sister,
Esther Schultz of Tigard, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.
