Hours Extended For Monumental De Hooch Show
HARTFORD - Due to popular demand for "Pieter de Hooch, 1629-1684," the
first-ever exhibition devoted to this Seventeenth Century Dutch master ( The
Newtown Bee , January 8, 1999), the Wadsworth Atheneum has extended its hours.
The museum will open an hour earlier, at 10 am, for the duration of the
special exhibition, which continues through February 28.
More than 10,000 visitors saw "Pieter de Hooch, 1629-1684" in its first 13
days. In comparison, the museum's enormously popular special exhibition
"Caravaggio and His Italian Followers" drew 4,300 guests in its first 13 days
last spring. The Caravaggio exhibition went on to attract more than 42,300
visitors during its 13-week run, with out-of-town visitors pouring more than
$5.4 million into the Connecticut economy.
Through February 28, the atheneum will be open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am
to 5 pm. The museum will be open until 8 pm on First Thursday, February 4.
Admission to "Pieter de Hooch, 1629-1684," which includes general museum
admission, is $10 for adults, $8 for college students and senior citizens, and
$6 for ages 6 to 17. On Thursday and Saturday morning, general admission is
free and admission to "Pieter de Hooch" is $3.
