Studying How To Play And Learn

BY MICHELE HOGAN

As part of a child development unit in seventh grade home economics, Gail

Seymour, home economics teacher at Newtown Middle School, asked her students

to invite one young child to a holiday party at the school.

Mrs Seymour said, "By studying how the young children play and learn, the

seventh graders get a better understanding of how they themselves learn."

Mrs Seymour said that events like this "create a memory, make connections

between written learning and real life experience."

Mrs Seymour said this get-together "shows the sweetness and kindness of the

middle schooler. It shows every seventh grader in their best light."
