with cut: Town Hall Managers Seek Funds For Roof Repair

It's not often the Town Hall Board of Managers comes to the town asking for

funding, but with the Edmond Town Hall roof in need of replacement, it

requested $50,000 this year.

Monday night, the Administration Committee of the Legislative Council cut that

figure down to $25,000.

According to Edgar Beers, chairman of the Board of Managers, the total project

will cost $175,000 to replace three separate flat roofs on the building,

including the large roof above the theater. The remainder of the money will

come from the Board of Managers' reserve account.

Mr Beers said the movie theater may have to be shut down temporarily while the

work is being completed.

The building's original roof has never been replaced, according to Mr Beers,

though it lies under several layers of roofing material applied over the

years.

The Board of Managers is scheduled to meet with consultants Tuesday night to

begin planning the repair work.

Mr Beers said the Board of Managers has not sought help from the town since

the late 1980s, when work was done to a side porch off the first selectman's

office.

The roof work is expected to take place this summer.
