Rosentel Receives Palmer Service Award
United Way of Northern Fairfield County and The News-Times announced that
Newtown resident Stephen G. Rosentel is the 1998 recipient of the Forrest C.
Palmer Community Service Award.
The award was presented at the victory celebration and awards dinner held by
United Way on February 12.
Active in community affairs in Danbury and in Newtown, Mr Rosentel is involved
with the Local Emergency Planning Commission which creates guidelines for the
use of hazardous materials in Danbury. He is also a member of the Danbury
Chamber of Commerce.
He lives with his wife, Judy, and their two children in Sandy Hook, where he
worked with other parents to help build a new playground at Sandy Hook
Elementary School.
Mr Rosentel has served on the Board of Directors of the United Way for five
years. He serves as the vice chairman of the Executive Committee, chairman of
Food Distribution, and has served on the Community Fund Committee. Upon
election in March, he is expected to assume the position of chairman of the
Board of Directors.
President of Leahy's Fuel, Inc, in Danbury, Mr Rosentel serves on the board of
the Independent Connecticut Petroleum Association and the Propane Gas
Association of New England. He is also a member of the National Propane Gas
Association.
The News-Times created the Forrest C. Palmer Community Service award in 1990
when Mr Palmer retired as publisher. The award is presented annually to an
individual who is currently serving as a volunteer and has made a difference
to the United Way and the community.
