No Blue Ribbon For Newtown High School This Year

Newtown High School was recently informed that they were not selected for a

site visit with the Blue Ribbon Schools Secondary Program run by the United

States Department of Education.

This competition provides recognition to a small number of exemplary high

schools across the nation.

John Reed, Superintendent of Schools, said that he is pleased that Newtown

High School had the initiative to complete the extensive application and

school-evaluation procedure, and he would like to thank everybody who assisted

in that.

He said, "I would like to congratulate those who got it. We will look at it,

and try again in two years."

Thirty-eight percent of the schools who were winners at the state level (like

Newtown High School) were selected as finalists to receive a site visit.
