OBITUARY: Shirley Coleman
Shirley McCabe Coleman, 85, the widow of former Newtown first selectman Edward
Coleman, died October 15 at her home in Stuart, Fla.
Mrs Coleman was born in Meadsville, Penn., and had been a resident of Stuart
for 21 years, moving there from Newtown. Mr Coleman, who also had been a state
representative while he and his wife lived on Hanover Road in Newtown, died 17
years ago.
Mrs Coleman was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Stuart and
had been a member of the Newtown Congregational Church.
She was a volunteer for Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart and for Good
Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Coleman of Stuart, Fla., and Kathe
Coleman Hodgson of California, and two grandchildren, Jennifer and David
Hodgson of California.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 18, at 3:30 pm, in
Newtown Village Cemetery with the Rev Steve Gordon of Newtown Congregational
Church officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Aycock Funeral Home, Stuart,
and the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown.
