Police have provided information concerning an unusual multiple-impact motor vehicle accident that occurred on the evening of Saturday, August 1, at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25) in Botsford. Those accident details became available on August 7.

At about 8:13 pm on August 1, Alexander Mayorga, 17, of Pleasant Valley, N.Y.,  was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla compact sedan carrying five teenage passengers on a driveway at the shopping plaza, when Mayorga lost control of the auto and then entered a sidewalk located beneath an overhang while the vehicle was accelerating, police said.

The Toyota then smashed into a support pillar for the overhang located near the Verizon Wireless store, police said.

The vehicle continued traveling and then struck a brick wall in front of Payless ShoeSource. The Toyota then struck another pillar. The vehicle then crashed into yet another pillar near New Wok Restaurant, police said.

The out-of-control car then collided with a trash can, after which it smashed into a video game display, which was set up in front of GameStop. The Toyota then crashed into another pillar near Eyecare Plus, police said.

The vehicle then reentered the driveway and stopped moving, police said.

There were no injuries, according to police. Fortunately, there were no pedestrians in the Toyota’s line of travel, police added.

Botsford firefighters responded to the accident.

A building inspector checked the damage to ensure that the broken pillars did not pose safety hazards, police said.

Mayorga did not have a driver’s license, but since he was driving on private property, he was not charged with a license violation, police said.

Police issued Mayorga a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving. Mayorga was released from custody for an August 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.
