VNA Donates $500 To Victory Garden
Every month, Newtown’s Visiting Nurse Association donates its proceeds from the VNA Thrift Shop to a local nonprofit organization. This month, the proceeds went to Parks & Recreation’s gift fund to support the Victory Garden. Nestled behind Doors of Fairfield Hills, the Victory Garden is a community garden that grows fresh produce and flowers for Newtown’s food pantries, like FAITH; Nunnawauk Meadows; Newtown Senior Center; and Real Food CT.
Director of Parks & Recreation Amy Mangold said that she is “very grateful” for the donation and for the volunteers who maintain the garden. Last year, the Victory Garden donated 4,000 pounds of fresh produce. Mangold said the garden is a “beautiful space” and a “treasure” in town. Myers and Richardson shared that the garden is looking for more volunteers to get involved and help maintain the garden for the community.
