Richard Clair DeBrown

‘To live in our hearts

is not to die.’

Richard Clair DeBrown died peacefully in his home, Fairhill, Newtown, August 17, with his loving life partner of 65 years, Albert Hamilton Zellers, at his side. He was born in 1918 in Lincoln, Neb., to Irene and Frank DeBrown.

He was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, attended Yale University, and graduated from the University of Nebraska, and was a strong supporter of his alma maters.

His accomplished career as a speech writer, copywriter, researcher, and consultant gave him opportunities to create speeches for dignitaries and The Muppet Show to name a few, while working at Time Inc and Carl Byor Associates in Manhattan.

In 1970 Richard and Albert built their home, Fairhill, on Taunton Lake.

He loved vintage movies, and traveling, which took him to China, Japan, England, France, Italy, and Brussels.

He will be remembered by his longtime friends Linda and Louis Albanese and sons of Fairfield; his loyal caregivers, Teresa and George Appianing; a niece, Elyce DeBrown of San Diego; and a nephew of Lincoln, Neb., Roger DeBrown.

A memorial celebration of his life took place at Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, August 22.
