Newtown Artist, NHS Teacher Featured In One-Artist Show At Municipal Center

A collection of drawings and paintings by Diane Dutchick is on exhibit at Newtown Municipal Center through September 23.  A closing reception is planned for Friday, September 23, from 6 to 8 pm, and the public is welcome.

Ms Dutchick, a Newtown resident, is a fine ats instructor at Newtown High School. She has studied at Silvermine Guild of Artists, Southern Connecticut State University, and Wesleyan University. Her works have appeared at the New Britain Museum of American Art, Yale University, The Discovery Museum, Wesleyan University, and the University of Hartford, among others.

She has shown in numerous juried and invitational shows, as well as solo shows in the region. Her work is in both public and private collections across the country.

“My passion and work have always been seemingly entwined. As a teacher of art, I have an acute awareness of the possibilities of creative expression,” said Ms Dutchick. “This constant appreciation has prompted me to explore a wide range of media and subjects in my own art.

“The natural and humanistic worlds provide the emotional and visual stimuli for my work. New discoveries are made as I respond to these experiences in both abstract and representational manners.  From a formal standpoint, the element of line has dominated much of my art work. The excitement of movement and mark making that I experienced in childhood, continues today.

“It intrigues me, and is evident in both my drawings and paintings. The incorporation of all these stimuli serves as an emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual testimony to art, and its importance in society.”

Newtown Municipal Center is at  3 Primrose Street in the Fairfield Hills Campus. Its hours are 9 am to 5 pm Mondays through Fridays.
