CTech IncUBator@UB Open For Business

BRIDGEPORT — CTech IncUBator@University of Bridgeport has begun accepting tenant applications at its technology business incubator on the University of Bridgeport (UB) campus in Bridgeport.

The 2,400-square-foot space will house up to six technology ventures interested in commercializing technology in the information technology, digital media, advanced materials, clean technology and other technology industry sectors.

CTech IncUBator is a partnership between Connecticut Innovations (CI), the State of Connecticut’s leading investor in emerging technology ventures, the University of Bridgeport, and The United Illuminating Company. In 2008, CI launched its first technology business incubator in New Haven at Science Park at Yale as an initiative of its Pre-Seed Support Services Program.

The success of the New Haven location provided an opportunity to expand into Fairfield County, home to many early-stage technology businesses and entrepreneurs.

The UB campus is an ideal location because of its proximity to transportation hubs, capital resources, and more well-established businesses upon whom the incubator will rely on to provide experts and mentors to its tenants.

Tenants will be able to tap into the strong business relationships and expertise of the incubator’s partners and will have access to a host of resources and services on the University of Bridgeport campus, such as the library, recreation center, state-of-the art conference facilities, student interns, and faculty.

“The University of Bridgeport has a long tradition of supporting the state’s entrepreneurs,” said Dr Gad Selig, associate dean, business development and outreach at the University of Bridgeport. “The CTech IncUBator provides entrepreneurs unaffiliated with UB an excellent opportunity to benefit from the expertise available on campus.”

CI and UB recently announced appointments to the CTech IncUBator Advisory Council. Advisors will help formulate policy, goals, and objectives for CTech IncUBator, as well as engage with tenant-run ventures, when appropriate, to offer advice, perspective and expertise intended to further each company’s development.
