DivorceCare Program Starts September 7

SHERMAN — On September 7, The Sherman Church will begin its fourth session of DivorceCare, an international outreach ministry under the umbrella of Church Initiative.

When a divorce happens, people often find themselves lost in whirl of legal changes, changes in family dynamics, even changes in residence. But for many, the greatest hit is purely emotional.

To do something proactive to meet the needs of people going through the profound pain involved in divorce, the Sherman Congregational Church began to offer a program for Divorce Recovery more than a year ago.

The video-based program addresses a different topic each week that is likely to emerge during or after a divorce, such as anger, depression, or loneliness. The program also deals with forward thinking issues, such as changing finances and starting new relationships.

Each class not only identifies the stages likely to be encountered, but then shares strategies and a foundation for healing. Sessions are led by individuals who have walked down this path themselves. People are encouraged to go through the program more than once.

The next series in Sherman will meet Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm, September 7 through December 7.
