Make A Difference At The Parade

To the Editor:

Hunger is a growing issue in our community. FAITH Food Pantry serves only Newtown residents meals in time of need. Last year, FAITH gave out 3,800 meals. As of July this year, FAITH has already given out 3,400 meals. In the first seven months of this year, they have given out 90 percent of last year’s total.

The need for food is great. To help FAITH, my daughter and I started One Can Make(s) a Difference three years ago. We are asking everyone who comes to the Labor Day Parade to bring one can of food in a plastic bag. Put the bag on the curb along the parade route. One Can is a float in the parade. As we move along the parade route, we collect the food. After the parade, we bring it to the FAITH Food Pantry.

This year, FAITH needs canned tuna, canned chicken, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, jelly, canned stew/hash, healthy children’s snacks, canned fruit, canned vegetables, complete pancake mix, syrup, healthy cereal, rice, beans, soap, and shampoo. Please check the expiration date! FAITH must throw away any expired food.

One Can makes a difference because One Can make a difference!

Thanks for making a difference!
