Residents Fare Well At Country Fair

BRIDGEWATER — The 59th Bridgewater Country Fair returned to the fairgrounds on Route 133 the weekend of August 20–22, with art and photo exhibits, vegetables, fruit and flower exhibits, cattle and poultry displays, industrial and agricultural exhibits, carnival rides, amusements, commercial tents, vendors, food and refreshments, and live entertainment.

Dozens of competitions were hosted by the event, with a number of Newtown residents bringing home trophies and ribbons for their efforts. The following is a listing of residents who received awards from the fair:

*Fire Department Parade: The David Lathrop Best All-Around Company and, for the third time in four years, The Best Overall Fire Unit/Porges Trophy were both presented to Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company.

*Canning, Junior Division, Blackberry Jelly: Myles Ku, first place.

*Hobbies, Junior Division (Class 5/Collections Assorted): Kara Kneen, second place; and (tie) William Kneen, second place; (Class 6/Collections Same): Eric Mockoval, first place.

*Pedal Tractor Pull: 5-6-Year Old, Saturday, Kyle Mockoval, first place and Class Championship; 7-8-Year Old, Saturday, Aidan Almeter, second place; Sabrina Boccuzzi, fifth place; and Ellery McFarland, sixth place.

*Baked Goods, Banana Bread: Tara Foster, third place.

*Flowers: MasoniCare Gardeners first floor, first and second place; MasoniCare Gardeners second floor, first and second place.

*Knitting (Class 6/Adult Sweater): Kim Slosson, first place; and Barbara Campbell, second place; (Class 11/Hat & Scarf), Sheila Sabin, third place.

*Needlework (Class 6/Doilies): Antoinette Vernuccio, first place; (Class 15/Miscellaneous): Antoinette Vernuccio, first place.

*Quilt (Class 5/Machine Quilt): Ken Erdman, second place; and Ethel Meadows, third place; (Class 9/Crib, Machine): Ken Erdman, first place; (Class 11/Wall Hanging, Machine): Marjorie Heim, first place; Ken Erdman, second place; and Cindy Erdman, third place.

*State Two-Crusted Apple Pie: Charlotte Springmeyer, second place.
