STD HEAD: SNAPSHOT

Tricia Farin

Occupation: I own a marketing company, Jantris Marketing Services, here in Newtown. We do marketing, advertising, websites, and graphic design, and service a lot of companies in town.

Family: My husband Matt and I have been married for 18 years. We have a 15-year-old daughter, Rebecca.

Pets: We have five pets! We have three cats, Coda, Vader, and Blackjack; and two dogs, Jetta and Snickers.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We moved here in 1997, and I opened my business in 1998.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to read, I like movies and music, and playing party games with friends and family. I do crochet, too. I’ve tried a lot of different crafts.

Do you have a favorite book? I like crime novels and suspense thrillers. If they try to “get the guy” I’m pretty good with it. The book I just read, though, is unlike what I usually read: The Diaries of Adam and Eve, translated by Mark Twain. I picked it up when we were visiting his home in Hartford, and it’s hilarious.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We’ve taken ten or 11 cruises, most of them in the Caribbean. Traveling to a beautiful place is my goal. Every year, I take a car trip just with my daughter, too, and we’ve hit some beautiful places all over the New England area.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I grew up in Brooklyn and Staten Island, and we moved every six months. I was always “the new kid.” So to live somewhere that I can go to the supermarket and see ten people that I know, and feel connected, is great. I feel a part of the community, and that’s important to me. I never felt that way growing up.

If you could do anything you’ve never done, what would you do? I would love to abandon my responsibilities and travel the world. There are a lot of places I would like to see.

Do you have a personal philosophy? I’m a “never say quit” sort of person. There’s always an answer, and if you work hard enough, you can find it.

What makes you happiest? A peaceful surrounding, sitting with my animals, my family close by, and nothing in a “hurry up” mode. A calm place makes me happiest.
